Recensie Everything Everything

vrijdag 17 juli 2015Salacgriva - Latvia

Everything

English art rock band Everything Everything wowed the crowd with very playful, but at the same time a highly professional performance. In spite of the fact that they were only the follow-up openers on the big stage they truly grabbed the audience with their energy and appealed to participate in this almost magical musical adventure.

Band‘s extremely electric and dynamic style was complemented by funky vibes and meaningful lyrics sung in falsetto by Jonathan Higgs, truly grabbing the highest notes imaginable. Everything Everything opened their show with an unknown composition followed by Cough Cough form their second studio album Arc released in the year 2013. They didn‘t gush into long speeches and rather choose to impress the crowd with their complex song construction. They just reassured that this truly is the first time visiting Latvia and claimed that they love it here. After some amazingly brilliant dance moves the band‘s lead Jonathan grabbed his guitar and took the breath away with an impressing solo, repeating the move several times during the whole performance.

Everything Everything closed the show with the lead single Distant Past from their latest album Get to Heaven. The Mercury Prize nominates stretched their vocal chords to the limit and really got the audience going. The crowd even lingered a little bit hoping to see the band one more time. Although the musical performance was impressive as itself, it was refreshing to see a band in a festival that has put some thought in joint visual image. Dressed in identical bright orange-violet jackets, they each made it their own incorporating some dose of personal style. Likewise in their music - the band truly worked together as a whole, but not for a moment did they forget their individual strength and irreplaceable personalities.
